Mary Louise Carter, 87, of Atlanta, Georgia, peacefully transitioned on February 10, 2025. A lifelong educator and advocate for literacy, she dedicated over 40 years to mentoring young minds in the Atlanta Public School System. Her warm heart and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Mary was the eldest of five children and the first in her family to earn a college degree. She tirelessly worked to provide opportunities for underprivileged youth, founding a community reading program that continues to inspire generations.

Mary is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and countless students who affectionately called her "Mama Carter."
